SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol which is used to connect to a web server and conduct different tasks using a command line. The protocol is popular with many skilled users, as the information transmitted over it is encrypted, so it cannot be intercepted on the way by a third party. SSH access could be employed for a number of things with regards to the type of web hosting account. With a shared hosting account, in particular, SSH is one of several ways to import/export a database or to upload a file when the website hosting server permits it. If you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH may be used for just about everything - you may install software or restart particular services including the web server or the database server which run on the machine. SSH is used primarily with UNIX-like Systems, but there are clients which allow you to use the protocol if your personal computer is working with a different OS too. The connection is created on TCP port 22 by default and the remote web server always listens for incoming connections on that port although many providers change it for security reasons.

If the cloud hosting package deal that you’ve selected through the signup process offers SSH access as standard, you shall be able to activate this function with only a mouse click within your Hepsia CP. If you've selected a different package, the SSH access function could be added via the Upgrades menu and it'll become available at once. The information that you need to connect shall be conveniently listed in the SSH section of the Control Panel - the hostname, the username and the port number. You could also set what password to use from the same location and you shall be able to modify it anytime. All commands that are allowed are listed in the Help articles that we've prepared for you, together with examples of the syntax which you need to use. An additional advantage of permitting SSH access to your account is that you will be able to upload files using an SFTP connection.
