An Operating System is the software that communicates with the hardware of a computer system and is the intermediary between apps and the hardware, which includes peripherals such as a printer, a computer mouse or a keyboard. When you run an application, it transmits requests to the OS using an API (Application Program Interface) and the communication is done through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Identical to a personal computer, web hosting servers also feature an Operating System which serves as a host for all of the software installed on them, including script applications or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, and many others. A virtual machine can be generated on a physical one, so you could install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment compared to the physical server host OS.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
We offer you three different Linux distributions for the Operating System of our VPS servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are some of the most stable and reliable OSs available on the market and we offer all three of them rather than just 1 because we realize that you might want to set up some software that has specific requirements with regards to the Operating System it will run on. The latter is due to the fact that each of the three Operating Systems has a huge support community behind it and there are various software programs you may install on the hosting server. Your OS selection will also determine exactly what hosting Control Panel can be set up on the VPS if you would like to use one and for that reason we offer several Control Panels as well. If you ever decide that you need to have a different OS, our technical support can quickly wipe the current one and install the one that you would like. In addition, we offer an optional service to maintain the OS on your VPS updated weekly.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
If you decide to buy one of our dedicated servers, you will find three Operating Systems on the registration page because we want to give you a broader choice for the system environment on the server as different apps could have specific requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian contain different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and take advantage of a stable and risk-free Internet hosting service. Depending on your selection, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always change the Operating System if the one you've selected at first doesn't meet the requirements of the software which you'd like to run. We can also update your OS on a regular basis to keep it as risk-free as possible through our Managed Services upgrade package.
